Oh - that worked indeed (when using
'WINEPREFIX="$HOME/.local/share/wineprefixes/typingofthedead_demo" wine'
instead of just 'wine')!

That helped tracking down the issue further: For both Diablo 2 and TOD it only
happens with the "Emulate a virtual desktop" (1280x800 for me) setting enabled
in winecfg.
