the best way would be to remove all "fake" .NET registry/file stuff that now lives in default WINEPREFIX at the point the Mono package is considered 'stable'.
That's the plan, the wine-mono package will own all keys and fake dlls related to a .NET installation.

In the end the goal should be to install MS Office 2010 in a clean WINEPREFIX without having to install/uninstall Mono.
Exactly, but until wine-mono implements enough of .NET it may be necessary to uninstall it (and perhaps replace it with native) in order to get programs to install and run.
