Forgot to mention this was tested with wine version 1.3.5 and with the original game DVD.

Did you try the workarounds (delete jre folder and install the extra bits jre, vcrun2005sp1, vcrun2005 and directx9 using winetricks? - http://wiki.winehq.org/winetricks)
