latest patch

This is the latest patch which passes our testbot. I believe it is the same I
sent to the list last year.

I did not give up on this bug (or any others where I'm copied/assigned), I'm
just stuck in real life. The patch is here and if you want to do anything with
it feel free to do so ;-)
