Oh, interesting. I did find it strange that somehow the shell API could be
causing GUI bugs...

Indeed, trying to click on UI elements makes the pop up for a split second and
then go away, but you can't interact with any buttons in that black area.
Fortunately, it's only for dialogue and tips, so the game can be played just
fine (although, I'm forced to look up some gameplay on Youtube so I can get my
bearings...)
