Summary: mozilla activex control download dialog is potentially confusing Product: Wine Version: 0.9.2. Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: enhancement Priority: P2 Component: wine-binary AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: michael.s.gilbert@gmail.com
The newest versions of wine ask the user if they would like to install the mozilla activex control when an application makes calls to ie, which is a good thing. However, the download dialog is not very clear. the current text is:
"The application is requesting an ActiveX broser object but the Mozilla Active X control is currently not installed. Do you wish to download and install it?"
This is fine and good for the computer savy, but the average user will have no idea what this means. so statistically, 50% will say yes, and 50% will say no. hence, wine will not work as expected for 50% of the users, and they will say this software isn't useful because all they see is that their software of choice didn't work.
i propose the following as a clearer prompt:
"This application requires an extra Wine component to enable web browsing. If you select "yes," 5 MB of data will be downloaded and installed. However, if you select "no," the application likely will not run.
Would you like Wine to automatically download and install the web browsing feature?"
