This is the first I've heard of a distro declining to handle the icons. I see some discussion here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Desktop_Project
Well, we don't like making downstream changes, backports or other unintended things that aren't in upstream unless we have to because "upstream knows best".
Let's use this bug report for a discussion whether I should fix the Arch package to ship its own .desktop and .png icon files or whether upstream should bring them. I think wine should provide one or more .desktop and .png icon files for the set of programs the user should see by default. The suggested ones were winecfg, uninstaller, regedit, explorer.
If you don't want to make these changes upstream, please tell me. I will have to do them in the package, then. :(
