Yes, I think this only happens on NV50 (Tesla)-generation GPUs, as Henri
mentioned in comment 14.

I guess the issue was never reported to Nvidia and I don't think they care now
that they dropped support for pre-Fermi (GeForce 400+) GPUs in their current
drivers.

Maybe you tested that already but does the same issue happen with the Mesa
(nouveau) driver?
