On closer inspection I can see what's happening: when you run Audiosurf in WINDOWS, the mouse pointer can be SLIGHTLY away from each button and still allow the user to click on the button, but the user can still click the buttons if the mouse pointer is directly over them.
When WINE tries to reproduce this behaviour, the mouse ends up too far away from the buttons and the user CAN'T click on the buttons when the mouse pointer is directly on them.
This does not happen if you have the game set in FULLSCREEN.
