I have this problem as well. However, when I start a new game, and I look at
the ground or turn away from the dark elf prisoner and look at the crates
behind me, the framerate boosts to normal levels.

If this doesn't happen to you then we probably have different issues. I am
running a radeon X1800 with the latest open source drivers from git (and the
.33 kernel).

I am running wine 1.1.40
