This is still an issue in Wine 1.1.37 but sprint races work as before. I play on maxed out settings, maybe you should also try.
Fixed, try this patch to any version wine such 1.1.25 or latest 1.1.42 http://bugs2.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=26876
This patch also fixes NFS Underground 2, NFS Most Wanted, NFS Carbon crash
Now All NFS is playable under WINE!
