Not sure if its related to your issue, but some apps/games expect data files to be present in the current working directory. Try to chdir to "C:\GOG Games\Anno 1602 - Creation of a New World" first, and check if it makes a difference.
Yes. I already was in that directory, because without that I won't even get the splash screen.
Btw ... this whole bug report seems to be a bit messed up. There are three different backtraces, most likely all related to the different issues. The initial description was that Anno 1602 crashes after some minutes of playing, whereas the recent reports mention that it doesn't start at all. Could be a regression or a different version of the game, nevertheless mixing all this up doesn't really make it easier to fix this.
Sorry, I missed that part in the initial report. I somehow only noticed what Martijn wrote and that sounded like my bug. I'm happy to move this to it's own bug, if you prefer it.
