From my experience, it happens only when using KDE.
To get Word, Excel and Powerpoint working fine regarding windows states, I did the following : Start System Settings Select Window Behaviour Select Window Rules Click "New..." to create a new Window Rules Enter the description Window Class: Regular Expression. I use .*\b(winword.exe|excel.exe|powerpnt.exe)\b.* Check "Match whole window class" Check on tab "Size & Position" Check "Full screen": value Forced, No Check "Ignore Requested Geometry": value Forced, Yes
Then if you notice that, when moving shapes in Powerpoint, you do not see them as you should: Click in "Window matching" tab (this the first tab) In "Window types": Normal, Dialog, Utility, Dock (panel), Toolbar, Torn-off Menu, Splash Screen, Desktop, Unmanaged, Standalone Menubar. In "Window title": value Substring Match = Microsoft
I am using KDE 4.10.5 at the moment but this also did the trick with the newer versions I previously run in Manajaro.
