I have good news! The problem persists if the Pentax Photo Laboratory is
installed under linux (wine-1.1.43). But if it is installed under windows and
then it's directory copied into $HOME/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/ the software
works without problems.

It's a strange behaviour to me, but it's good it works after all.
