which in turns says most of the discussion is happening here: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28723 (mind you, I don't have winecfg set to Windows 7, but to Vista, though this behaviour was also common under windows xp mode)
supposedly a raft of audio bugfixes are on their way in the 1.3.36 - I hope that this will go away.
