The launcher starts fine for me when you set the attached registry and use virtual desktop. There was one simple regression, so you need the very recent Git version that contains its fix. No winetricks is needed. I think this bug should be marked fixed and new one should be filled for virtual desktop requirement.
Where did that registry setting come from? Shouldn't the game be setting that somewhere, instead of hacking it in manually?
