Thanks.  This got me a little closer.  I used the alsoft-conf utility, which
wrote a .alsoftrc file to my home directory.

Now, when I launch the game, I get a configuration screen.  When I hit the
launch button, a black screen appears for a second or so, and then the game
crashes.

I'll upload a new debug output shortly.
