I also cannot add friends to Steam; when I add a friend, Steam will sit there
at:
"Searching for XXXX..."

but not do anything.

Strangely, if I type a user that /doesn't/ exist, Steam immediately comes back
with:
"Unable to find XXXX.  Hit 'back' if you want to try and search again."
