I intend to work on this. If possible Stefan, could you give me some pointers
where to start? I have already skimmed through the packed_depth_stencil
extension docs and have a rough understanding how it works / why it's good to
have support for it.

Sadly I lack some starting points (the unimplemented features don't trigger any
FIXMEs or similar debugging code).
