On these applications

free downloads
the application when run under wine needs numerous redraws forcing in order to
access some components (I keep on shading the window to force this)
Both apps have in common an opengl(?) subwindow that is updated on the fly.
In both cases the toolbar and menus are also usually black (when run under wine)
and only appear when you either move the mouse over them or click on the menu.
