part of this issue is what's described in
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=49780 (missing support for various
escape sequences)

but I would have expected (as you tried) that PS1='' fully fixes it, which it
doesn't
so there's likely something else
can you post the output with WINEDEBUG=+console?
