Please retest this with a current Wine. Since 1.7.32 we minimize the window on focus loss. For me the game now resumes operation correctly on restore.
I am running ArchLinux with Plasma 5 on my desktop, KDE 4 on laptop and wine 1.7.55 and this is still a problem.
