In fact, I think the problem all along was that it was difficult to install the 32-bit GStreamer MP3 codec. I remember that after fiddling with a bunch of packages, I was able to get the music to play on the main screen (and not crash) at least once back in 2016. Now that the MP3 codec has been moved to GStreamer's "good" plugin distribution, it's easy to install. And since the MP3 codec is never missing from Windows, we can't expect the game to work without it. Therefore I am resolving this bug as INVALID.
There is, unfortunately, still an unrelated audio bug in Wine's builtin ADPCM codec that makes the game unplayable (Bug 34302).
