Can you try starting the game with:
wine Porsche.exe driver=dx7z
Try using Windows 98 through XP modes. I don't think the game was designed to run on 3.1. The unofficial patch (Enhanced Version) makes it work with 2000/xXP.

Hello Tomasz!
Tried, did everything you described, switched between sound modes, Wine modes, also installed the patches. To put it simple, NO RESULT. 3D Device detection works only with in Windows 2000 mode and above. Software mode does not work, even with loading of Dx7. Patches were installed, didn't help it all. Without the patch I had the crash, with it, simply nothing. The game got stuck even at the start. No movies, nothing at all. Ubuntu 7.10, nVidia Corporation NV43 [GeForce 6600] (rev a2), NVIDIA UNIX x86 Kernel Module 100.14.19 Wed Sep 12 14:12:24 PDT 2007, 2.6.22-14-generic. Game: Bought original Need For Speed Porsche 2000, 3.0.
Any more ideas? (Need for Speed III works great, WITH 3D support)
Regards: Norbert
