Bug #: 33712 Summary: Download.com web install application crashes wine. until till you get to a pure source... Product: Wine Version: 20050930 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: rufus_1_2@yahoo.com Classification: Unclassified
Created attachment 44640 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=44640 The backtrace
In Short: Downloaded the setup file from Download.com for Charactermine. It crashed and forced wine to quit.
After the above I went straight to the source programs website http://www.charactermine.com/downloads.aspx and tried both the complete install download and the web install. Both worked just Fine. In fact the web install I did second and it already recognized that Character Mine had been installed. After downloading again of course.
So I have to conclude the problem is the install app that download.com sends you to do a web install. I hope it is the anti cross sale features of wine that killed the app, because previously when "downloading" apps under Windows from Download.com they include all the web browser toolbar or some other useless resource hogging application before you can install the application you were suppose to be "downloading."
So far as I am concerned this isn't a bug unless there is no other source for a given program.
I will attach the actual "download" program and the crash report... err backtrace. Since only one attachment is apparently allowed and I don't want to waste 586k of space here is the link to download site: http://dw.com.com/redir?edId=3&siteId=4&oId=1770-20_4-0&ontId=20...
Or just go and search for character mine on their site.
You always forget how good fresh energy feels, till you get to a pure source... Tron
