--- Comment #8 from Vanessa Ezekowitz vanessaezekowitz@gmail.com 2009-11-19 14:33:48 --- Ok, I've added the WINE Ubuntu repository ( http://www.winehq.org/download/deb ) for Karmic Koala, and brought in 1.1.33. I'm afraid this has made things far worse.
Now, all of the intro, menu, and loading screens are in shades of white with very few colors - almost like someone's run the screens through a brightness and contrast filter and turned both all the way up. Further, at the point where I should see the game table, the screen is actually blanked out - there is no visible content at all.
Wine is now throwing errors like crazy (actually the same error message repeated over and over), producing far more output than my terminal can capture (and for some reason, wine blah.exe 2>&1 >file.txt isn't enough to capture the output). I've saved what I could, and will attach it.
If I instead try commenting out the 'Visual "StaticColor"' bit from my xorg.conf , and run the game in 8bpp mode with the default visual (which I assume is PseudoColor), I get poor results - almost no color at all, and only the brightest stuff is even visible - I've seen this before in older versions of WINE.
If I try to run the game in my normal 24bpp session, I get the exact same results as in bug #13198 .
Removing ~/.wine (and subsequently rerunning `winecfg` and recreating my Drive-C symlink) did not help. In fact, I had to do this again when I downgraded back to the official Karmic package (1.0.1), as not doing so caused WINE to crash.
I have my original game CD again, and I'd be glad to make a copy or two of it available for testing and debugging purposes, in observance of the US's fair use guidelines.
