So, no, the radeon driver does not only support 2D.
Now something different, for older models of the Radeon chips, the GL_VENDOR seems to be different and looks like: OpenGL vendor string: DRI R300 Project OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI R300 (R300 4E45) 20090101 AGP 8x x86/MMX+/3DNow!+/SSE TCL OpenGL version string: 1.5 Mesa 7.6.1 Please make sure, that any patch recognizes them too.
