I think Rafał's right, they're concerned that disabling the check must mean
that this is some kind of nasty hack that should be avoided and fixed properly.
If there really is no other way then I'm sure they'd be fine with the #ifdef or
Makefile.am solution but if that's the case, I'd like to know why Ruby is
different.
