I had to disable it and/or forward to a non-round-robin-enabled distant DNS server. The program (PunkBuster pbsetup.exe in that case) expected the DNS resolution in a fixed order. The DNS resolve cycled between 3 IPs but the program could only connect to one. It seemed random until the cause was identified. See https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=38820#c4.
The reddit post and relation to the bind package remind me of that issue.
