Yes your patch does fix the issue.

Is there anything the developers of the program could do to prevent the need of
that "very sad hack" as you call it ? :) I can send an email. They might not
support Linux but surely they can be accomodating if it can make it work.
Besides the crash on exit the application works perfectly (even better than the
previous versions)
