I think that the Crashday issue is somewhere else - It isn't the type of fog that's broken, the fog shouldn't be there in the first place.
popsot is broken on Windows in the same way it is on Wine, at least on my Geforce 9600 GPU on Windows 7. A Google search for "prince of persia sands of time fog" brings up a lot of discussions about this issue on Windows with some game settings that work around the issue without disabling fog, for example:

I suggest to close this bug as wontfix and deal with the Crashday issue in a separate bug. Before I do that I'd like to hear from Damian Ivanov which "other games" he meant that are affected by the bug as well.
