I'm afraid this didn't work. To clarify my problem: it's not that the program
downloads and fails to install, it's that it never actually finishes
downloading: there's a tiny, tiny, tiny section at the end, maybe only a few
kilobytes, but it never actually downloads, and EA's service seems to refuse
access to those last few bytes. This happens consistently on a wide variety of
games; it's not just one or two, but it's throughout the entire client.
Furthermore, I actually upgraded to Wine 1.9.3 today, to see if maybe it was
fixed in there: but no change, it functions the same.
