I'm not sure I understand well what you mean by 'windows installation'
Anyway, I'm running wine from an xterm on a PC booting GNU/Linux Debian/Etch.

A partition of my HD does contain a MSWin$ OS (which I do not use since many
years ago). 
The fact is that the 20060310 wine version works whereas the newer one do not
and, mind you, when I cheange from the old version to the new one I do nothing
else than launching wine (i.e. all other things remain as they were when
running the older wine version). So, there must be, somewhere, a new in-built
wine .dll that is responsible for that error!
