Reverting the patch on top of wine-1.3.4-56-g79ed842 was successful and that fixed the issue.
The games started fine in Wine-1.3.4. Besides Crystal Cubes I found the following of my games to crash: Braid, Puzzle Kingdoms, Star Wars: Empire at War.
Author of the patch added to CC. I added the link of Crystal Cubes to URL (freeware, only 14 MB). The game requires native d3dx9_36.dll
Wine-1.3.4-56-g79ed842 was compiled from source Fedora 13 (32 bits) Nvidia 7600 / driver 256.53
