Several games (including Warcraft 3) have that ioctl error message,
but don't seem to mind if it's not there.

The only report I found where the ioctl error 
might be a real problem was a teac dvd firmware updater,
T4S9WIN.EXE (http://www.myl.ro/forum/index.php?showtopic=3229).
So maybe it's worth implementing anyway just to get it out of people's logs...
