Battle net works now even though the background is black and text can be a hard to read when the text over laps. This is not a perfect fix but you can do battle net.

I installed the fonts in a different way though:
go to a windows machine and copy the folder c:/windows/fonts.
paste it in your linux folder and simply use the font installer that comes with your distro.
for Slackware 12.2 -> go to Control Center > System Administration > Font Installer... click in administrator mode and enter your root password.
