which is supported by alsa.
I build the intel HD driver as a module and went through all the motions
according to gentoo's alsa-howto.

I did wonder if it's machine related too, then again I never had any sound
issues before, not in WoW which I played on this machine ever since I got it in
december '06 nor in any other way, including sound editing and recording...

Version of alsa-lib is 1.0.16 if that helps.
