Is this still an issue in current (1.1.11 or newer) wine?
Unfortunately yes. It is the same for version 1.1.10 and 1.1.11. However, in version 1.1.12 the installer fails. I'll uninstall wine completely, upgrade to Ubuntu 8.10 and try again.
