i noted that my key was entirely in caps, i assumed because that way there can be no confusion between similar characters such as lowercase L and uppercase I and attempted to substitute lowercase characters in my problem key field, B, like so: AAAA-bbbb-CCCC-DDDD-EEE. this allowed me to procede.
i think that the user who stated that the problem is more than there is insufficient room to type the key characters and SHOW them, as opposed to the key being invalid. it's purely a gui issue i guess.
noteworthy thought: using lowercase letters in this situation worked since they took up less room. using a smaller font when faced with this problem would probably have the same effect, especially if your application is case sensitive.
