It may not fix the problem - but it will point out exactly where tho problem is and how to (easily) fix it.
You are mistaken. Printing an error if OpenGL initialization or screen resolution change failed doesn't prevent filing bugs with that messages in the log. Printing a message just helps to diagnose the problem. Running out of available file handles is a legitimate error, which could happen even on properly configured systems.
