I have been trying to use Word Viewer, downloaded from this URL:

to print a file, because neither OpenOffice.org nor Google Docs can display it correctly on Linux. (Actually, not even Word Viewer displays it correctly on Wine, but it does seem to be almost correct.)

The first time I tried to print, Word Viewer said there were no printers installed. I think this was because I'd installed cups-pdf while Word Viewer was running. So I quit Word Viewer and ran it again.
This time, when I tried to print, the Print dialog appeared, but when I pressed the Print button, I got an error dialog saying that there was a problem with printing - but it didn't give me any clue as to what the problem was. There was no error in the cups error log.
If I do "echo hi|lp -" in Linux to print a test to a PDF file, this works. So cups-pdf seems to be configured correctly.
