I delete it out of paranoia about apps having easy access to my entire directory structure. The script I use to set up my default WINEPREFIX directory for app testing maps all unused drives (anything other than c: and optical drives) to /dev/null and special folders to a specific subdirectory. If z: is mapped to /dev/null or missing then winefile errors when initial (empty) "unix\home<user>" window is refreshed.
