Just to add to this strange behavior, a user at Linuxquestions.org also was able to reproduce this bug on a Mandriva system:

So it seems to effect some linux distributions, but not others.
Juan: did you run the installer on a clean directory or was there some other software already installed on that might have change some parameters?
