While looking at the problem reported in
  http://www.linuxforen.de/forums/showthread.php?t=233636
I found that the demo for DATARead was a free download
at http://www.datanorm-programme.com/dpc20.EXE

Installing this required a fake ie registry key, mfc40.dll,
and mswstr10.dll.  The easiest way to get it all is
  wget kegel.com/wine/winetricks
  sh winetricks -q fakeie6 mfc40 jet40 mdac27 
You can then start the app with
  cd .wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/DATA_DPC20/
  wine DATAFakt.exe
It seems to start, but first puts up a scary dialog box saying
  Method '~' of object '~' failed
