Warning: could not find DOS drive for current working directory '/home/martin',
starting in the Windows directory.

Try in a clean wine prefix (and don't remove Z:/ symlink).

Ok, I tried that but it still crashes, I've also tried overriding msvcirt.dll,
msvcrt.dll, msvcrt20.dll, msvcrt40.dll and msvcrtd.dll with the same result.

Tested with wine 1.1.10 with a clean fresh .wine, doesn't crash on startup, see
attached screenshot.
