Summary: Touhou 10, 11 dialogue text transparent, difficult to read Product: Wine Version: 1.1.4 Platform: PC URL: http://www16.big.or.jp/~zun/ht OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: tyle7@hotmail.com
Created an attachment (id=15860) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=15860) Mountain of Faith run with wine 1.1.4 and on XP, windows XP to the right
When running Touhou 10: Mountain of Faith, or Touhou 11: Subterranean Animism with wine 1.1.4, the in-game dialogue is transparent, making it nearly impossible to read. This is also present in the "Music Room" selection.
This is with a standard wine install, except for running with a native d3dx9_36.dll (necessary to get the games to run, see bug 13297)
Graphics card is NVIDIA Geforce 6200SE, with drivers 169.12

This is probably a duplicate of bug 10408; pretty much all of the Touhou games have this problem.
Well, it *could* be a duplicate of that bug, but that is hard to know until a fix for either of the bugs fixes the other as well (or shows that the other issue is unaffected by the fix).
I filed this bug since the symptoms are different from bug 10408.
(Bug 10408 affects Touhou games 6-9, and has the symptoms that all text is on top of a black rectangle. Gameplay not really affected since the readability is good.)
The issue here concerns Touhou 10 and later, and has no black rectangles. Instead we have that all color is not used for the text as it should, resulting in game text that is something between hard and near-impossible to read.
Reconfirming the bug with wine 1.1.20.

--- Comment #9 from tyle7@hotmail.com 2009-06-06 14:36:53 --- Proof that this was a duplicate of bug 10408 came sooner than expected. Both bugs are solvable by using the DIB engine from bug 421 .
Closing duplicate.

I still get this with the latest Git. I'm pretty sure that this is a different bug that affects the bug that this is a duplicate of.
That is quite possible, as recent patches have improved the status of bug 10408 somewhat, while touhou 10 and later look exactly as before. Reopening.

What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |rainy6144@gmail.com
--- Comment #15 from rainy6144@gmail.com 2010-04-10 10:04:33 --- I'm seeing this bug in git revision 68632904 (2010-03-31) plus the DIB engine patch. My system is Fedora 12 running a recent git version of Mesa for my Radeon 3450 in 32bpp mode.
When WINEDIB=OFF, the semi-transparent or strangely-colored text seems to be due to incorrect software depth conversion for 16-bit RGB444 DIB sections used by the game; there is no corresponding XRender format, and the software depth conversion functions X11DRV_DIB_SetImageBits_16() and X11DRV_DIB_GetImageBits_16() silently assumes 555 or 565 color masks. When these functions are fixed, the foreground color of the text becomes correct. There is still the black-background problem (bug 10408) in e.g. th12, and the text is entirely invisible in e.g. th07; this is probably due to incorrect alpha handling.
When WINEDIB=ON, similar problems seem to be caused by a strange biSize in BITMAPINFOHEADER, which makes the DIB engine retrieve incorrect color masks. If the color masks are retrieved using the bmiColors field instead, as is done in wine's gdi32, all the games now run perfectly.

Note that the workaround in the patch, when the color mask contains zeroes, should be unused after the fix to masks.

--- Comment #18 from Alexander Waldmann g6672D@gmail.com 2010-12-01 13:49:24 CST --- How many people are testing _without_ using Microsoft's d3dx9_36.dll? Because: - As of Wine 1.1.36, it's not necessary to run 10, 11 and 12. The only problem is: - Without the DLL, text that would be rendered fuzzy, is not rendered at all.

I will be a bit harder than that, since much of that code has been changed and some of that patch has been implemented.
Issue is still confirmed with 1.3.32.
