I have tried installing Skyrim on Ubuntu 14.04 several times. Whether I install Steam separate and then install Skyrim, or if I install Skyrim via PlayOnLinux, it crashes at the splash screen. And while I have a 64bit laptop, I use (I believe) the 32 bit version of Wine for Steam/Skyrim installs.

This really shouldnt be an issue, definitely not with POL that can swap between versions.
POL scripts often use unnecessary overrides, outdated and/or patched Wine versions, or all three. Bug reports should be based on a clean wineprefix using the latest development release of plain Wine.
I play Skyrim, and can't reproduce the problem.
Since the OR never responded, marking WORKSFORME. Reopen if you still have the problem in plain 1.7.47 or later and are willing and able to provide requested information.

Nothing was fixed in wine.
