Summary: GTA2 (Grand Theft Auto 2) runs too slow to be playable Product: Wine Version: 1.1.13 Platform: PC-x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: ben@atomnet.co.uk
In short the game runs at about 2fps making it completely unplayable. Not sure if this is a regression or just another "poor performance on ATi cards" issue so I'm about to regression test a few versions of Wine and see if anything changes (game used to run fine on my GeForce 7900GTO a while ago).

--- Comment #1 from Ben Hodgetts (Enverex) ben@atomnet.co.uk 2009-01-19 15:20:41 --- Created an attachment (id=18841) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=18841) Terminal log
No change using Wine-1.0.1 instead so not a regression. Looks like it doesn't like ATi cards.
Full terminal dump attached. Card is a RadeonHD 4850 using the 8.12 (2.1.8304 Release) Catalyst drivers.
Using FBO for ORM or using OpenGL for the DDR don't make any difference.

--- Comment #5 from Vike the Hube vikevine@omnitude.net 2010-12-30 04:54:08 CST --- Still an issue on 1.3.10. But I have a workaround: GTA2 has a hidden option to use Glide for video.
1. Set up your controls etc using GTA2 manager. 2. Install a Glide wrapper- I use http://www.zeckensack.de/glide/archive/GlideWrapper084c.exe . 3. wine regedit -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> Software -> DMA Design -> Screen: set "rendername" (a String/REG_SZ) to "3dfx.dll" set "videoname" (a String/REG_SZ) to "dmaglide.dll" 4. If you open GTA2 manager again, you need to setup the registry keys again- GTA2 manager does not support Glide mode. 5. If you're using GTA2 v11 or greater, you will find the registry key in HKEY_CURRENT_USER instead of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. 6. Launch GTA2 directly, i.e. create a shortcut to start in the GTA2 directory and run wine gta2.exe .
Because of this I believe the problem is related to the DIB engine. But it's been so long since I heard that information I can't be certain.

Vike the Hube's workaround works.

--- Comment #8 from Benjamin Hodgetts ben@xnode.org 2011-08-24 04:49:59 CDT --- Vike: Can you put that info into the AppDB?
This is only really supposed to be for the bug itself, the AppDB is the first thing the users will see so it will get more exposure there.

--- Comment #9 from Vike the Hube vikevine@omnitude.net 2011-08-24 05:22:18 CDT --- I would, but someone has already done it for me ;-) It's under "how to get multiplayer to work".
