Summary: Photoshop CS2: freezes when trying to save for web Product: Wine Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS/Version: other Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: fangzhang2008@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=12045) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=12045) log of when the freeze happens
When I try to use the save for web option in Photoshop CS2 it freezes and i have to kill it. I can see the save for web screen, but then it freezes. I can't click anywhere on the virtual desktop and I have to kill it.
I'm running Wine 0.9.59 on PCLinuxOS. I built wine from source and installed Photoshop CS2 as instructed on Winehq's appdb. Only thing I changed was that I also copy pasted all my fonts from windows into my fonts folder in drive_c.
I am also able to reproduce this bug in the latest version of sidux using 0.9.59.
I tried running Photoshop.exe using right click and open with wine and also
wine "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Photoshop.exe" from terminal
Both times it freezes when I save for web.

(If I could reproduce it, I'd run with +relay and create a log file, and try to see if there's anything suspicious.)

--- Comment #6 from Oliver Heard oliverheard@ph33r.me.uk 2008-04-20 16:34:24 --- I don't have this problem with 0.9.58 or 0.9.60 on Fedora 8, just so you know.
Also there is a bug causing some windows (like message boxes) to appear behind others when they shouldn't, this can give the effect that Photoshop is crashing. Try moving the windows around if possible to see if this is the problem.

--- Comment #7 from John Anderson MrAnderson@lavabit.com 2008-06-09 16:28:12 --- I have a problem similar to this that may be related. When I try to save for web the dialogue box that should come up does not.
I am running Ubuntu 8.04 with the latest wine installed (rc4 I think).
Other than this the program runs fine barring a few minor niggles.
among which, when you minimize photoshop the tool bars stay up, floating over the desktop.
also when you minimize the picture you are working on it will disappear and if you full screen it then it actually goes full screen - on top of the rest of photoshop, stopping you from being able to use the program.

This log has me minimise the whole of photoshop and have the tools and floating menus stay up, it has me full-screen the currently worked on picture where it covers the whole program rather than be constrained to the photoshop workspace like it should and it has me try to save for web where the dialogue fails to come up.

--- Comment #9 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2008-06-14 09:49:19 --- Sorry, that's not very helpful as is. Please try it again, but don't do anything but trigger the hang. i.e. do New Image, then Save For Web.
Once you've figured out the absolute shortest, quickest way to demonstrate the hang, start photoshop with WINEDEBUG=+relay,+seh,+tid wine photoshop > log.txt 2>&1 bzip2 log.txt and attach the resulting file log.txt.bz2.

attached log has me start the program, open a new blank document and try and save for web before closing the program again.

I thought that me including comments on when things happened would be helpful in isolating the problem.

--- Comment #12 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2008-06-15 07:41:08 --- Thanks, but that log doesn't have the traces that we need enabled. Please set the WINEDEBUG variable for the session, e.g. WINEDEBUG=+relay,+seh,+tid wine photoshop > log.txt 2>&1 The result should be absolutely huge, maybe megabytes.

--- Comment #13 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2008-06-15 07:52:13 --- Sure, but we really need the traces. Are you having trouble following my directions? If so, say where, and I'll give more details.

Well I enter $ wine "path to photoshop" WINEDEBUG=+relay,+seh,+tid wine photoshop > log.txt 2>&1 into the terminal and that text file is what comes out after I do everything that needs done so obviously I'm doing something wrong.
could you tell me _exactly_ what I need to do in terms of terminal input and the like to get the required result?
thanks.

but rather
WINEDEBUG=+relay,+seh,+tid wine "path to photoshop.exe" > log.txt 2>&1

Yeah, I worked that out afterwards. I was being an idiot. however now when I enter the path to the photoshop executable it wont run.
I enter $ WINEDEBUG=+relay,+seh,+tid wine "/home/john/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Abobe/Abobe Photoshop CS2/Photoshop.exe" > log.txt 2>&1
What's wrong?

Sorted it out and managed to get it working.
spat out a file that is almost 6 GigaBytes (!) in size. Currently in the process of compressing it but it looks like it could take all night at this rate.
Will upload it once it finishes.

--- Comment #18 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2008-06-15 11:50:28 --- 6 gigabytes is a bit too big to send, even compressed :-)
bzip2 can't handle such large files easily, better to try rzip.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/qryyu2
Had to upload it to there as it was too big for this site.
Still, 5.8GB to 10.4MB is quite a reduction.
What I did:
opened photoshop from the terminal waited for it to start closed the "welcome to photoshop" dialogue opened a new blank file tried to save for web closed the program
Hope this is helpful and thanks for the effort.

Photoshop doesn't crash for me, However nothing happens when I click "Save for Web" with wine 1.1.2.
I also have the same issue, with the same version of wine. Would it be a case of setting some more DLLs to Native windows ones?

After surfing around it seems that the "nothing happens when I try to save for web" problem seems to be common under Ubuntu. This suggests that it is a problem with that rather than a problem with wine.
Still, it is something to look in to. On both sides.

Ubuntu 8.10, Wine 1.1.16-367-gae1802d, Compiz enabled
