Bug #: 28694 Summary: Simcity 3000 (1.x): No video, just audio Product: Wine Version: 1.3.30 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: wyattmeister@gmail.com Classification: Unclassified
Created attachment 36883 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=36883 Standard output
When I try to run the game using "wine sc3.EXE", only the audio and in-game cursor work, there is no video and a frozen image of the desktop appears in the background.
I've tried a few things to no effect:
Disabling compositing Using -r1024x768 and -r800x600 (as recommended) Running on one core (also as recommended) Setting the resolution before running the game Running in a window
This is the original UK version (not UK edition!) of Simcity 3000, both 1.0 and 1.1. I had a previous issue where a file was corrupt, so I'm going to try and locate an ISO of the UK version (legal as I own it right?) and install again.

--- Comment #1 from Chris Wyatt wyattmeister@gmail.com 2011-10-13 14:51:46 CDT --- It looks like this could be because I've got a dodgy scratched CD, I've tried it on XP and I get an error about CMS16.dll not being a valid image. Though Googling it seems that a few other people have had this same message.
Sorry for the false bug report (if that is indeed the case).

--- Comment #2 from Chris Wyatt wyattmeister@gmail.com 2011-10-13 15:33:52 CDT --- I tried an ISO, reinstalled from scratch and had the same issue.

--- Comment #5 from Chris Wyatt wyattmeister@gmail.com 2011-10-14 08:38:53 CDT --- I had a similar issue in 1.28, except that I was getting the music from the introduction video, but after a mouse-click I didn't get the music for the main menu, I think there may have been an error dialogue but it was difficult to get to it. This was with my old install that had a corrupt Audio.dll file, so I need to try it again with an uncorrupted install. I could try 1.29 at some point as this has a platinum status.
I did try it in a virtual desktop, same issue.
Also, I should've mentioned I'm using an NVidia graphics card with the official software (v280.13) and I'm running Ubuntu Oneiric.

Indeed. Reopen if an issue with a correct install.
